The primary function of the
music ministry is to support and encourage the active
participation in the sung prayer of the gathered. The secondary
function is to inspire the prayer of the gathered by sharing our
gifts as musicians. |
| |
Parish Cantors
| The cantor's main
responsibilities include leading the sung proclamation
of the responsorial psalm and leading the assembly in
singing hymns, songs, chants, and other acclamations and
litanies that occur during the liturgy. The cantor
should possess a pleasing singing voice and should know
how to use their voice to encourage the assembly to join
in the singing. |
 |
Parish Choirs |
 |
Occasionally, parish
choirs join the cantor in leading the singing. Choirs
also help enhance and augment the music by singing
additional harmony and countermelodies along with the
assembly. Choirs also use their gifts to offer
meditative pieces when appropriate. |
Parish Instrumentalists |
|
There are times when
additional instrumentalists share their gifts to enhance
and augment the accompaniment of the sung prayer and may
also offer meditative pieces to help enhance the prayer
experience of the gathered |
 |
Music Director |
|
 |
The music director
plans, prepares, rehearses, conducts and accompanies the
music for all parish liturgies. The music director
introduces new repertoire to the parish and works
closely with the liturgy committee, pastor and directors
of religious education to ensure a good and creative
continuity in all parish worship. |
